Frequently Asked Questions
What hardware is recommended to run lxdream?
The target system is a 3.0Ghz Pentium 4 with a GeForce FX 5 series or equivalent. Current performance with those specs normally ranges from 50-100% depending on load, but we're still working on improving it.What video hardware is supported?
Any currently supported Nvidia or ATI hardware should work fine using their supplied drivers. (as in, hardware that's still supported by its manufacturer) Provided suitable GL driver support was available (and this unfortunately is the big problem at the moment), any hardware capable of providing at least a 24-bit depth buffer should work to some degree. Can I run lxdream on linux with an Intel integrated graphics chip?
The i945 has been reported to work correctly with the latest drivers and the 2.6.31 kernel, although it's likely to be reasonably slow. The status of older models is unknown at the moment. What games does lxdream play?
We don't have a real list at this stage, but the majority of games should work to at least some degree. Feel free to check out the compatibility page, and update it with your results. Will there be a windows port?
Probably, but it's not a priority at the moment. It can be built under windows using cygwin if you're feeling particularly brave. Seriously if you're looking for a windows emulator, you might want to try nullDC, Makaron, or Chankast.I found a bug/want to request a feature
Great, please add it to the issue tracker. Bear in mind that it could be some time before it's fixed/implemented as there's a lot of work still to do already.Do you accept patches?
Of course, please email them (unified diff preferred) to patches@lxdream.org. Please include a description of the patch, and either an explicit licence under the GPL or an outright copyright assignment.Has anyone actually asked any of these questions?
Nope, but we're trying to preempt the obvious ones..
